Rachael completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Toxicology at the University of Guelph. She completed her undergraduate thesis in the Karrow Lab, where her research evaluated the optimal dietary intake of iodine in zebrafish and demonstrated its dose-dependent effects on survival.
Building on her undergraduate studies, Rachael studies how nutritionally relevant concentrations of iodine modulate neuroendocrine-immune pathways in zebrafish during an endotoxin challenge. Her research aims to identify how iodine regulates genetic pathways that coordinate innate immunity, inflammatory responses, and development during early vertebrate life.
